Training Courses on Short-Term Shoring of Damaged Buildings

As part of the #SIQUAKE2020 activities, two training courses on Shoring and Stabilization of Damaged Buildings will be taking place between 24 – 26 February and 23 – 25 March 2020 at the Training Centre for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in Ig, Slovenia. The trainings will be oriented towards the training of technical experts for short-term shoring and stabilization of post-earthquake damaged buildings, with the emphasis on search and rescue activities.

The trainings will be led by Slovenian instructors, who have previously participated in the EU project MATILDA (Multinational Module on Damage Assessment and Countermeasures) activities, as well as other civil engineering and carpentry experts. A three-day training will be divided into theoretical and practical approach. The first day of the training will be dedicated to the occupational safety and health, necessary equipment, search and rescue techniques, theories on basic constructive elements and statics of buildings, types of ruins, shoring procedures, and use of adequate material. The following, practical part of the training will allow the participants to gain knowledge on production and use of wedges, and will be an opportunity to test their knowledge on basic shoring of apertures, walls and ceilings and search and rescue activities from damaged buildings. Two complex short-term shoring and rescue examples will be practised during the training.

Altogether up to 40 voluntary firefighters and representatives of regional civil protection headquarters are planned to attend the trainings.
