Mass Shelter Workshop

In case of an earthquake in Central Slovenia (VII-VIII EMS), over 60,000 people would be temporarily relocated only in Ljubljana and the surrounding municipalities. For this reason, it is important that key institutions are prepared for fast and effective provision of temporary mass sheltering for the affected population. That could be provided in pre-existing facilities or temporary outdoor mass shelters.

Ljubljana will host Mass Shelter Workshop from June 4th to 6th, 2019 where experts from several European countries where earthquakes represent a great risk will be gathered. Experts will present their experiences and best practices in setting up temporary mass shelters in case of a major accident. They will also test usefulness of the MaSC Toolbox in concrete cases, developed by international MaSC project consortium with the support of the European Commission from 2015 to 2018. The purpose of the MaSC project was designing the guidelines and the tool for common European mass sheltering methodology. The experts will design deliverables at the workshop in Ljubljana as basis for further development of mass sheltering guidelines and their implementation in protection and rescue plans at the local, regional, national and EU levels.
