Host Nation Support (HNS) Workshop

In the event of an earthquake in Central Slovenia with an intensity of at least VII according to the EMS, all available protection, rescue and relief forces and resources would be used. If Slovenia itself would not be able to provide proper response, it would launch a request for the international assistance. Slovenia could launch a request for international assistance based on bilateral agreements and through Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). For easier coordination of received assistance, the EU Guidelines on Host Nation Support (HNS) and national HNS guidelines for international assistance in the event of a natural or other disaster in the Republic of Slovenia were adopted, where key activities, roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in all stages of receiving international assistances were defined.

International assistance could strengthen and improve the response of a disaster-affected country only with successfully implemented procedures for receiving international assistance and coordinated activities of all stakeholders. As part of the #SIQUAKE2020, the Host Nation Support (HNS) Workshop will be organized. The workshop is focused on testing existing policies, testing and strengthening the knowledge of the procedures and responsibilities, identifying gaps and needs for further improvement of the HNS concept.

The HNS Workshop will be held from 18th to 19th September in Ljubljana and is designed for representatives of state and other institutions which are responsible for the implementation of the national HNS guidelines for international assistance in the event of a natural or other disaster in the Republic of Slovenia.
